The moon has brought a bag of brilliants
Diamonds, opals, diamonds
And tossed them on the grass by millions,
Diamonds, opals, diamonds
Across the ground, beneath moon’s burning,
Wintry, cold and wintry
Everywhere my eye is turning.
Wintry, cold and wintry
You fairies, one and all, come hither;
Glitter, sparkle, glitter
The light’s alive though grass may wither.
Glitter, sparkle, glitter
In brilliant night, the bright moon’s beaming
Near and far and nearer
On jewels scattered through the gleaming
Near and far and nearer
For festive ring on fairy finger;
Moondrops, frosted moondrops
They vanish as I watch and linger.
Moondrops, frosted moondrops
While I can never clasp their glimmer,
Nightfall, frosty nightfall
Around a fairy’s neck they shimmer,
Nightfall, frosty nightfall.
Near and far and nearer,
Diamonds, opals, diamonds.
