It’s heartbreaking. Being very much a member of GenX, I had the same mistaken perspective, an artifact of the conditions and apparent progress we saw growing up, I suppose. Having been forced to live many years in contact with the far right, I recognized years ago that this deep, deep evil was still alive. But even so, I wasn’t expecting it to play out into the horror we are now living with. Lord knows what I did expect, but not this. Perhaps all we can say at this stage is that, as this evil has awakened, so have we. Awakened to a knowledge that this fight belongs to us as much as it ever belonged to our parents' and grandparents’ generations.
