What Is the Dawn

What is the dawn?
The fire of the sky arising
From beneath the sea,
Beneath the rock.

Earth's fires smoulder
In the depths, the molten
Crevasses that drip
The dust of eons.

But the sun, far
Far below, yet unencumbered
By the prison bars
Of liquid iron,

Its heat forever
Burning, timeless ecstasy
That froths the waves
And paints the mountainsides,

Soars upward, ever
Joyous, comprehending
Days and nights uncounted,
Draws the earth

Into its endless arc,
One moment seas aflame
Within its fire, the rocks
One instant blaze.

One moment all
Things pause, rejoice, as earth
And sea and sun together
Take their flight.
